STUDY No. 25 - EPHESIANS 2:1-14

What can you glean from this section that you may not have noticed or known previously - information, promises or practical lessons for living?

Do not worry if you cannot find an answer for every point in the list suggested below. Sometimes the bigger problem is having to choose one from many!

Notice particularly the two key verses which begin with "But........" (verses 4 & 13).
Notice also who did something and with what result!

Reading the passage with specific items to look for, and with the expectation of learning something of value, is  likely to be a more useful activity than a less focussed approach. Some people will find it useful to note down on paper points arising from the following list:

  • Identify the main PERSON(S) mentioned in the passage.
  • Is there a specific PROMISE (or more) in this passage to remember?
  • What in your opinion is the PRINCIPAL POINT of this passage?
  • Can you find something which is PERSONALLY APPLICABLE to you today?
  • Does this passage mention any SIN TO AVOID?
  • Is there a particular COMMAND TO OBEY?
  • Can you find an EXAMPLE TO FOLLOW?
  • How does the passage add to our knowledge or appreciation of the LORD JESUS CHRIST?
  • This passage is one that many people have learned by heart.
    It tells us
  • what a Christian is saved from,
  • how he is saved, and
  • what he is saved for.
  • Verses 8 and 9 declare a truth many do not know:
  • Salvation is BY GRACE
  • Salvation is NOT OF OURSELVES
  • Salvation is NOT OF WORKS
  • Somehow the natural man does not see this even if he is clearly told.

It is possible to be told spiritual truth and not understand it. - See Luke 18:31-33
The words of Jesus were simple and the message was clear. Yet see verse 34.

Here is the GRACE of God - the undeserved favour of the Almighty. To some it is given to believe and understand.

To hear or read a truth is one thing: to believe and understand it is another. We may need to pray for His enabling.  -  Psalm 119:18 and Luke 24:45
